Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training

The aim of this qualification is to recognise the skills, knowledge and competence required for an individual to work unsupervised as a personal trainer. This includes being able to offer one – to – one training, baseline assessment, nutritional advice and progressive programming which is specific to the individual needs of a client.

Occupational Description

A gym instructor/ personal trainer’s role includes designing and implementing exercise programmes for a range of individual clients by collecting and analysing client information to ensure the effectiveness of personal exercise programmes. A personal trainer should also actively encourage potential clients/ members to join and adhere to regular exercise programmes, employing appropriate motivational strategies to achieve this.

Students who have completed the Level 2 Health and Fitness Instructor course need to complete the following modules:

  • Anatomy and physiology for exercise and health
  • Applying the principles of nutrition to a physical activity programme
  • Health benefits of exercise
  • Programming personal training with clients
  • Delivering personal training sessions

The course will include 8 lessons of 2 hours duration in class, 5 preparatory sessions relating to the practical component and 100 hours of work experience which are a mandatory part of the course.

Occupational roles The personal trainer should among other tasks be involved in:

  • Collecting information relating to individual clients
  • Carrying out fitness assessments to establish client fitness and skill level
  • Analysing information relating to individual clients
  • Identifying, agreeing and reviewing short, medium and long term goals to ensure the effectiveness of exercise programmes
  • Providing a range of exercise programmes in accordance with the needs of the clients by applying principles of exercise programming
  • Making best use of the environment in which clients are exercising
  • Providing clients with accurate information on the principles of nutrition and weight management
  • Promoting healthy activities and related strategies for daily living to clients/ members

Entry requirements

Persons interested in attending this course will need to be in possession of the level 2 qualification in health and fitness instructing.

Duration and delivery

The qualification is delivered by lectures through online and Future Focus is online approved centre.

Courses are held twice yearly. The course comprises 12 sessions of 2 hours duration and 100 hours of training as a personal trainer (practical)

Euro 980 of which Euro 400 is paid as a non-refundable deposit and the balance on the first lesson.

CERTIFICATE IN HEALTH AND FITNESS

Fitness Instructor – Gym Based Exercise Course from YMCA – Level 2

Gaining a YMCA approved qualification enables individuals to join the UK Register of Exercise Professionals, opening up job opportunities in the UK and across the world, through the International Confederation of Registers for Exercise Professionals (ICREPs), Australia and New Zealand.

Fitness Instructor Level 2 from YMCA

This qualification is aimed at the learner who wants to pursue a career in the health and fitness industry as a fitness instructor in the context of gym-based exercise.
Learners will cover:

• Anatomy and physiology including:
– the heart and circulatory system
– the respiratory system
– structure and function of the skeleton
– musculoskeletal system
– postural and core stability
– the nervous and energy systems and their relation to exercise

• How to maintain health, safety and welfare in a variety of fitness environments, including the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults

• How to programme safe and effective exercise for a range of clients, the health benefits of physical activity and the importance of healthy eating

• How to communicate with clients effectively, and motivate clients to adhere to an exercise programme

• The skills and knowledge required to plan and prepare a gym-based exercise programme with apparently healthy adults – both individuals and groups. This may include young people in the 14-16 age range, provided they are part of a larger adult group. Client groups also covered are older adults, ante and postnatal clients and disabled clients provided the relevant contraindications and key safety guidelines are observed

Applications are open. Lessons will be held once weekly from 18.00 hrs to 20.00 hrs

Fee

Euro 800 – deposit of Euro 400 and Euro 400 on the first day of the course.

14 lessons of 2 hours each and 100 hours in a gym. One of these lessons will be in a gym.

Course assessment includes theory lessons, continous assessment and summative assessment.

Entry Qualifications

There are no entry requirements for this course but students are expected to have a good working knowledge of English.
