The target group of this award are foreigners and non-native Maltese residents or speakers who wish to obtain a better understanding of the Maltese language.
This course enables the student to build the knowledge, skills and competences obtained through the Level 2 Award in Maltese as a Foreign Language.
The learning outcomes for knowledge obtained at the end of this programme are as follows:
- a) obtain a better understanding of the Maltese language
- b) develop the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading & writing) up to a level A2 of the CEFR
- c) follow speech which is very slow and carefully articulated
- d) understand instructions addressed carefully and slowly
- e) Recall, recognize and understand elementary to pre-intermediate vocabulary related to thematic areas related to everyday life.
- f) write short simple notes/letters/messages related to matters on familiar topics and needs
- g) communicate in simple spoken Maltese on familiar topics and needs
The learning outcomes for skills obtained at the end of this programme are as follows:
- a) listen for gist, specific information and detail, read for gist, specific imformation and full comprehension.
- b) speak using simple sentences about topics such as family and other social circles, housing, one’s education, jobs and hobbies.
- c) communicate in simple terms about routine tasks such as instructions and directions, as wells as familiar topics and activities such as leisure.
- d) write short simple notes and messages relating to matters in areas of immediate need.
- e) write very simple messages.
- f) use elementary to pre-intermediate vocabularyphrases and sentences to carry out simple exchanges of information with an elementary to pre-intermediate level of fluency.
- g) Use an elementary to pre-intermediate grammar to help him/her communicate.
- h) Practice the four language skills (listening, reading, speaking, writing) up to a Level A2 of the CEFR.

The course will be offered either: Classroom based OR Partially Online depending on the choice of the student

Course duration: 15 lessons – x2 2 hour sessions per week for 7.5 weeks
The Total Learning Hours is 150 hours, out of which 30 are Contact Hours.
Entry Requirements
Basic ECDL or equivalent for those opting to follow the course online
MQF level 2 in English or equivalent/higher
Accredited course in Maltese as a Foreign Language (MQF level 1)
A pre-assessment test in the Maltese Language approved by Future Focus which will also assess the speaking/listening/understanding skills of the students.
