This course is intended to prepare learners to work with elderly patients in elderly care homes or centres in either the private or public sector.
This course is intended to provide elderly care workers with the skills required to take care of elderly patients in state/private elderly care homes or to work as private elderly care workers in residential (private homes). The qualification will allow learners to:
- Develop the professional knowledge and practice in a care setting
- Understand the rights, responsibilities and protection on elderly care work
- Communication and documentation required for care
- Understand health and safety in elderly care
- Support individuals to meet daily living needs
- Support the the physical and emotional well-being of individuals
This course is made up of 6 study units. There is a Practice Placement of 40 hours.

The course has a total of 300 Guided learning hours with 60 hours being contact hours and 40 hours being on the job work placement hours.
Entry Requirements
School Leaving Certificate and a minimum of 17 years of age.
